This policy explains what the Jackdaw game ("Jackdaw", "we") collects, why, and what you can do about it. Jackdaw is made by Carlisle Technology [OWNER: legal name and address].
The short version
- You don't give us your name, email address or phone number. Your account has a generated player name.
- We keep what the game needs to work: your account, your devices, your games, your friends and blocks.
- No advertising, no selling or sharing of your data, and no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- You can delete your account at any time, in the app or on this website.
What we collect
- Your account: a random account ID, the generated player name and avatar you choose, and a friend code. If you back up your account, we also keep a one-way hash of your account key (never the key itself) and the public part of any passkey you add.
- Your devices: for each device you sign in on, a label (such as the phone model), the platform, and when it was last seen, plus sign-in tokens, stored hashed.
- Your games: every move in every game (so games can be resumed and replayed), the results, your game history and statistics, and a skill rating we don't currently show.
- Social features: your friends, friend requests, invitations, blocks, and reports you make or that are made about you. Quick chat uses fixed phrases; there is no free-text chat.
- Usage: which days you play, how many games you start and finish, and which lessons you finish, used for overall numbers such as how many people play each day. We don't build advertising profiles.
- Technical data: your IP address, used briefly to protect the service (for example, to limit repeated sign-in attempts) and in server logs kept for a short time.
- Crash reports: if the app crashes, a report with the error, the app version, your phone model and operating system version, sent through Google Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix it.
- Notifications: a push token for each device you sign in on, so we can tell you about friend requests and game invitations through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can turn notifications off in your phone's settings.
When you first open the app it asks your birth year to confirm you are at least 13. The check happens on your device; we only record that you confirmed your age, not the year.
What we don't collect
Your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, location, or advertising ID.
How we use it
To run the game: to sign you in, match you with other players, play and resume games, show your history and friends, keep games fair, act on reports, and understand how the game is used so we can improve it.
Who can see what
Other players see your player name, avatar, whether you're online (your friends only), and how you play at the table. They never see your cards. Our servers and database are hosted by DigitalOcean in the United States [OWNER: confirm]. Crash reports and notifications go through Google Firebase, which processes them for us under Google's terms. We don't sell or share your data with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Completed games are kept for up to 24 months. Everything else is kept while your account exists.
Deleting your account
In the app: Settings → Delete account. Without the app: jackdaw.games/delete, using your account key or a passkey. Deleting removes your devices, sign-in keys and passkeys, friends, requests, blocks, ratings, activity records and lesson progress, push tokens, and clears your player name and friend code. The games you played stay so the other players' history still works, with your seat shown as "Former player".
Children
Jackdaw is for people aged 13 and over. If you believe a younger child has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Questions or requests: [OWNER: contact email].
